When one wearies of our works on earth, we are counseled to throw off our earthly bonds and look to the stars. So tune in, suit up, and blast off! The Forum brings you the perfect guide for the journey.
Adam Frank, astrophysicist at the University of Rochester, is one of the nation’s new leaders in the visioning of interstellar space and why our dreams and understandings about it are critical to the future of our species. Way smarter than a HAL 9000, Dr. Frank is a leading expert on the final stages of evolution for stars like the sun. His computational research group at UR has developed advanced supercomputer tools for studying how stars form and how planets evolve. His current work also focuses on life in the Universe, the search for “technosignatures” of other exo-civilizations, and on climate change and the “Astrobiology of the Anthropocene.” He also does the dishes!
A self-described “evangelist for science,” Dr. Frank brings boyish excitement and absolute scientific rigor in equal measures to every topic. His last book – Light of the Stars: Alien Worlds and the Fate of the Earth received praise from the New York Times, NPR and Scientific American. He has two earlier titles, The Constant Fire: Beyond the Religion and Science Debate, and About Time: Cosmology and Culture at the Twilight of the Big Bang.
A regular on-air contributor to NPR’s All Things Considered, Dr. Frank was co-founder of National Public Radio’s 13.7: Cosmos and Culture blog which ran for 7 years and garnered tens of millions of distinct views. He has contributed articles and essays to the New York Times, The Atlantic and other media outlets and was the science consultant for Marvel’s Dr. Strange.
Cool!
Never one to miss a really great ride, WXXI’s Evan Dawson co-pilots our discussion as Moderator.
