What value does local broadcast news deliver to a community? Just how important is it to us to learn what’s going on around us? And what stories do we fail to hear about and why?
It will be almost a full year into retirement when Don Alhart speaks to the Ewing Canandaigua Forum this April 2nd. Like all retirees, he has stories to tell and with long-time friend and co-anchor Ginny Ryan, we will all gain from his wisdom and recollections of a career in journalism.

Don Alhart began his broadcast journalism career in Rochester in 1966 and over 50 years served as a trusted source of local, national and international news. He began his career in broadcasting as a summer relief engineer at WROC-TV in Rochester in 1962. He worked summers during his college years at what is now WHAM-TV. After receiving his BS Degree from Ithaca College, Don returned to that station where he remained for his entire broadcast career. A five-time winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast in the nation, he was also awarded the 60th Annual Rochester Rotary Award, the oldest major civic award in the Rochester community. In 2010, he was elected to the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.

Ginny Ryan is currently the Director of Community Engagement at Canandaigua National Bank. She has more than 37 years' experience in broadcast media, primarily at 13WHAM in Rochester and, with Doug Emblidge, was inducted into the New York State Broadcasting Fall of Fame. Ginny serves on the Community Advisory Council of the Ewing Forum.

There are two ways to attend an Ewing Forum event.

Friends who make a qualifying annual donation receive tickets to Forum events and invitations to post-event receptions with our speakers. An envelope with your tickets for the entire season will be available at a table in the lobby at the first event. Tickets will also be available at the box office of the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center.
