With moderator (and fellow journalist) Michael Winship, Dr. Cobb will explore the challenges to our national, state and local journalism, the implications it has on our democracy, and the future of the profession. Equipped with a doctorate in American History, Dr. Cobb brings a rich perspective to our current political landscape and a hopefulness in ushering Journalism through this new age of disinformation and dwindling resources.

Jelani Cobb is the Dean of Columbia’s Journalism School, political analyst at MSNBC, historian, celebrated author, and prolific educator on topics of race, politics, and hip-hop. He authored The Substance of Hope: Barack Obama and the Paradox of Progress and To the Break of Dawn: A Freestyle on the Hip Hop Aesthetic. His work as writer and editor at the New Yorker is a veritable timeline of the Black Lives Matter movement. He has also worked as producer or co-producer on numerous documentaries.

Michael Winship is the Schumann Senior Writing Fellow at Common Dreams, where he writes and edits political analysis and commentary. He is a veteran television writer and producer who has created programming for America's major PBS stations, CBS, the Discovery and Learning Channels, A&E, Turner Broadcasting, the Disney Channel, Lifetime, Sesame Workshop (formerly the Children's Television Workshop) and National Geographic, among others.

There are two ways to attend an Ewing Forum event.

Friends who make a qualifying annual donation receive tickets to Forum events and invitations to post-event receptions with our speakers. An envelope with your tickets for the entire season will be available at a table in the lobby at the first event. Tickets will also be available at the box office of the Fort Hill Performing Arts Center.
